Micro-freakin-biology final...

how i loathe thee...
antibiotics

Penicillin binds PBPs; inhibits the formation of bridges in peptidoglycan, its bacteriocidal, spectrum/organism=Gm+, Inhibition=Beta-lactamases; Efflux of drug; Porin size(Gm-), PenG is given IV and IM PenV is given PO 1st generation and effective vs growing bacteria

Methicillin binds PBPs, its bacteriocidal, its spectrum/organism= Gm+, inhibition= Beta-lactamases; Efflux of drug; Porin size(Gm-), it is resistant to inactivation by penicillinase of CA-MRSA

Ampicillin & Amoxicillin bind PBPs they are bacteriocidal, spectrum/organisms=Gm+; growing E.coli, Proteus, inhibition= beta-lactamases; Efflux of drug; Porin size(Gm-), given PO and is 2nd generation

Carbenicillin & Ticarcillin bind PBPs , its bacteriocidal, spectrum/organisms= Gm+ & Gm-, include Pseudomonas, Inhibition= beta-lactamases; Efflux of drug; Porin size(Gm-), given PO and is 3rd generation

Monobactams (Aztreonam) bind PBPs, bacteriocidal, spectrum/organism=Aerobic Gm-; Enterobacteriaceae, resistant to beta-lactamases, narrow spectrum given to those allergic to penicillin

Vancomycin Affects the (D-ala)2 chain in growing cells, its bacteriocidal, spectrum/organism= MRSA, Clostridium difficile doesn't cross the outer membrane of Gm- bacteria, drug of last resort except for MRSA and AAc(antibiotic associated colitis)

Isoniazid affects mycolic acid synthesis, bacteriocidal, spectrum/organisms=growing Mycobacteria, decrease drug uptake, resistant to tuberculosis, given PO 1st line tuberculosis treatment and is hepatotoxic

to be continued...i'm hungry very hungry...and i think i may have stumbled upon a miracle...
